Objective
RIU Hotels & Resorts sought to deliver a unified high-quality experience across its rapidly expanding global footprint. The primary objective was to maintain strict brand consistency while simultaneously adapting the sensory environment to the specific cultural and geographical nuances of locations in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and urban centers like Chicago. They required a partner capable of orchestrating complex, multi-zone environments—from intimate themed restaurants to high-energy pool areas—without compromising the brand’s prestigious Mediterranean heritage.

Under the coordination of Bernat Quetglas, project lead for RIU Entertainment, and Mood Media’s creative team—directed by Creative Manager Iván Pascual—we have designed and implemented a sophisticated, dual-layered audio landscape tailored to the guest journey. This integrated program establishes a rock-solid brand identity across global lobbies while integrating regional nuances and local musical styles to ensure authentic destination experiences.
Custom Music Programs
To drive consistency across diverse guest touchpoints, Mood Media provides 10 themed custom music programs that serve as the global standard for RIU’s restaurants. These are meticulously curated to mirror the unique DNA of each zone; specifically, Japanese and Italian themed restaurants utilize bespoke audio for culinary immersion, while pool bars and sports bars leverage dynamic programming that intuitively shifts energy levels to match the rhythm of the day.
This granular approach is supported by an expansive library of approximately 60 customized programs, strategically deployed based on geographic location and seasonal guest profiles. This close collaboration ensures that the “Sound of RIU” serves as a deeply authentic global signature—a high-quality experience perfectly tailored to the local guest journey across 40 flagship properties.
Content Management
The foundation of this global rollout is the Harmony platform. This robust management system allows RIU’s headquarters in Palma de Mallorca to maintain direct oversight of the sensory landscape. Mood Media’s team maintains weekly contact with RIU leadership to monitor devices and ensure that the synced players across the estate are synchronized and that every adjustment reflects the brand’s evolving global vision.
Results
The partnership between RIU Hotels and Mood Media has achieved extraordinary growth, scaling from an initial four-hotel pilot to a managed estate of 40 flagship properties in just two years.
